Enormous Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs Tuesday night

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery grand prize leaped to $262,000,000 (cash value $$123.5 million) Tuesday night when there were no top prize winners in the $236,000,000 drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers drawn Friday night, January 19th, 2024 were 01-09-16-17-30 with Mega Ball 17 and Megaplier X2. Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot in the past 12 draws since Tuesday, December 12th, 2023.

Even though there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, some players still walked away with huge pile of cash. There was a single lucky winner correctly matched all 5 numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in NJ won a quarter million dollar cash each.

Additional prizes won Friday night included 13 tickets that matched 4 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 554 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $150. There were 1065 tickets that matched three white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $150.

With 9 different ways to win, there were a total of 1,226,508 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Friday, January 19th, 2024 drawing.

Mega Millions is played in 43 states and D.C. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back to the players through prize winnings. About 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. To play, select 5 numbers from 1 to 56 then choose a Mega Ball number from 1 to 15. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at 12 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 26 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one lump sum cash payout option instead.
