Mega Millions jackpot rises to $944,000,000 Tuesday, December 24th, 2024; Five second prize tickets sold

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery grand prize jumped to $944,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$429.4 million) Tuesday night when there were no jackpot winners in the $862,000,000 drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers drawn Friday night, December 20th, 2024 were 02, 20, 51, 56, 67 with Mega Ball number 19 and Megaplier 2. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 29 draws since Friday, September 13th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in TX, matched all six numbers for a $800 million top prize.

Even though the jackpot was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. There were five lucky players that correctly matched the first 5 numbers and won the 2nd prize. The five lucky ticket(s) bought in AR,IL,IN(2),PA, each won one quarter million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.

Also, 37 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Also, 949 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $150. 2659 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $150.

With 9 different prize levels, there were 4,137,976 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, December 20th, 2024 drawing.

Mega Millions lottery can be played in 43 states and Washington DC. It holds the record biggest jackpot of $656 million in United States lottery history. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prize winnings. About 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. About 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Mega Millions uses a 5/75 (white balls) + 1/46 (Mega Balls) system from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The overall chances of winning are about 1 to 14.
