Big Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs Friday night

The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery drawing increased to $527,000,000 for the Friday drawing. The lump-sum cash payout stands at an estimated $$261.9 million. None of the tickets sold for Tuesday's $498,000,000 drawing matched 6 winning numbers. The winning numbers from Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 drawing were 05, 20, 26, 49, 51 with Mega Ball number 24 and Megaplier 4.

Although there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a single ticket that matched all five white ball numbers and won the second prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) bought in AZ will collect a quarter million dollar cash each.

In addition, 17 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 450 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers and won $150. Other prizes won included 1162 tickets that matched 3 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $150.

With nine different prize levels, there were 1,890,700 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 drawing.

Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. It holds the record biggest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prize winnings. Around 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. To play, select 5 numbers from 1 to 56 then pick one Mega Ball number from 1 to 15. The overall chances of winning are about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 258,890,850. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $12,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 26 equal annual payments. Winners can select one-time lump-sum cash payout instead.
