Friday's Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $240 million; One second prize ticket sold

There has been another rollover in the grand prize for the multistate Mega Millions game - to $240 million. The cash option will be an estimated $162.6 million up for grab. The grand prize grew because no player hit all six numbers from Tuesday night's $220 million drawing. The numbers from Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 drawing were 10-15-19-45-68 and the Mega Ball was 09, Megaplier was 4. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 781 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.

Even though the jackpot was not awarded Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with huge pile of cash. There was a single ticket that correctly matched all 5 white ball numbers and won the 2nd prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in won a quarter million dollar cash each.

Additional major winners Tuesday night included 15 tickets that matched four white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 400 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $150. Other prizes won included 1285 tickets that matched 3 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $150.

With 9 prize tiers, there were a total of 1,766,638 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 drawing.

Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in United States lottery history. Around 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back to the players through prizes. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. To play Mega Millions, select 5 numbers from a set of 75 then pick a Mega Ball number from 1 to 15. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except jackpot. The overall chances of winning any prizes are about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 258,890,850. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $12 million. Its annuity option is paid in 26 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
